IES Score Compiler
Challenge 3
One of the most expressed challenges for districts in implementing their instructional effectiveness initiative is that of weighting and compiling individual evaluation indicators to generate an overall evaluation score that is credible and defensible. In particular, the Arizona Framework specifies that results from multiple indicators (e.g., proficiency ratings, achievement data, surveys) be combined into a single, overall educator effectiveness score which will classify educators into one of four educator effectiveness categories: Ineffective, Developing, Effective or Highly Effective. Arizona law also requires that ratings of student achievement be weighted between 33 and 50 percent of the final evaluation score.

IES Solutions
In response to this challenge, ATI developed the Score Compiler. The Compiler enables districts to credibly combine indicators of student achievement with indicators of educator proficiency and with other indicators (e.g., surveys).  In addition, the Compiler makes it possible to differentially weight these indicators to produce a final educator effectiveness  score for a given educator or group of educators.

•Although the Compiler is designed to facilitate computation of an overall evaluation score at the end of the year, it is also used to promote instructional effectiveness throughout the school year. The Compiler is capable of bringing diverse sources of information to bear on professional development and instructional decision making as soon as the information becomes available.

Benefits of the Score Compiler

• Addresses the problem of combining multiple categories of indicators

• Enables differential weighting of categories of indicators

• Accommodates missing data

• Enables administrators to preview evaluation results based on specified weighting

• Accommodates reporting on required scales that may differ from the scales used for the indicators
